On September 10th, Clifton Blake hosted a Lunch & Learn event in coordination with the Village Shul Synagogue. Rabbi Tzvi Sytner gave an engaging presentation on the topic of “Business Ethics According to the Torah.” His captivating commentary focused on a simple question – how can one conduct business in an ethical way? What does this look like in practice?
His presentation began with a view of how the Torah views business ethics and included many thought-provoking analogies. The Rabbi mentioned that when one goes to heaven, the first question they are asked is “How did you conduct business in your life?” alluding to the fact that heavy importance is placed on engaging in business with integrity. Furthermore, the Rabbi stated that a central message according to Jewish law, or Halacha, regarding business practice is being honest and fair.
The Rabbi concluded his meaningful presentation with a final lesson – humility and community well-being in business practice. He noted that achievements in one’s personal life is important, but that conducting business is also an opportunity to uplift one’s own community. Furthermore, contributing to the greater good for the community is something that one should aspire to in their path of ethical business practices, according to the Torah.
This Lunch & Learn was the first of many that Clifton Blake will be hosting that is aimed at providing team members with valuable insights into the evolving economic and real estate landscapes. Stay tuned for our next session as we continue to engage with industry experts to deepen our understanding on a broad range of industry topics.
